China has long been well-known for its beautiful scenery, cultural history, and tourist sites. While there are many cities that boast fun attractions and cultural immersion, don’t forget the hundreds of square miles of protected land that comprise China’s rural areas! There are so many options, the main question becomes: Where should I go? For any tourist wanting to visit China’s scenic landscapes, here is my list of China’s top three state parks.

1 Giant Panda State Park
This new park was officially established at the beginning of November, this year. The park’s headquarters is located in Xi’an, but it also takes up 80% of forested area in Shaanxi Province. The land was designated a park to conserve the habitat of the almost 300 giant pandas living in the area, and also to raise local residents’ and tourists’ awareness of how to protect the endangered species. Three baby pandas (two of who are pictured above) were named at the opening ceremony on November 11: Qin Ku’er, a name meaning that the cub was born in Shaanxi Province, Jia Jia, meaning “beautiful home,” and Yuan Yuan, meaning “state park.” An adult panda born in a U.S. zoo also recently found a new home there!
