Lunar New Year is one of the biggest holidays in China. It is the start of the Spring Festival. Celebrations last for over two weeks, culminating in the Lantern Festival on the 15th day of the first lunar month.
So of course, Lunar New Year is always a big event here at Chinosity too. Let’s take a walk down memory lane to see how we celebrated in years gone by.
Your Go-to Guides to LNY
Every year we take deep dives into the culture behind Lunar New Year’s traditions, like the New Year’s Flower Fair in Guangzhou.
Everyone has different traditions. We asked some TikTok and YouTube celebs to share theirs with us.
Whether going to a fancy party or a casual gathering, this Chinese New Year fashion guide has you covered.
Lunar New Year is also a time to spend with family. We’ve covered the joys and sorrows of celebrating the most important holiday of the year as a Chinese expat in the U.S.
And for foreigners living in China, here are five things one of our Chinosity writers learned while studying abroad in Beijing.
The Cook-off Blazed to Life
Last year we held our first annual Lunar New Year cook-off.
TikToker @Gegethejing and Why Speak Chinese 2020 participant Erik faced off to make Hong Kong-style egg tarts.
Meanwhile YouTubers @blondieinchina and @xiao_maomao went head-to-head making egg and chive dumplings.
See whose final product looks the best to you. The recipes are good all year round. We will be announcing the recipes and participants for this year’s cook-off soon, so keep an eye out!
