The 2019 Asian Film Awards was a big night for Chinese cinema. Chinese movies won eight awards out of the 16 categories. “Shadow” was the big Chinese winner of the night, coming away with four awards. 1 “Shadow” (影)
“Shadow” is a story of body doubles and palace intrigue as the Pei Kingdom faces an invading army. The movie won four awards:
Best Cinematography for Zhao Xiaoding
Best Costume Design for Chen Minzheng
Best Production Design for Ma Kwang-wing
Best Sound for Yang Jiang and Zhao Nan
“Shadow” was also nominated for Best Editing and Best Original Music

2 Zhang Yu for “Dying to Survive”
Zhang Yu won the award for Best Supporting Actor for his role of Peng Hao in "Dying to Survive." The movie tells the story of a pharmacy owner who starts selling cheaper, generic drugs to poor leukemia patients.
“Dying to Survive” was also nominated for Best Film, Best Actor and Best Screenwriter.

3 Johnny Huang for “Operation Red Sea”
Johnny Huang won for Best Newcomer for his role of Gu Shun, a military sniper, in “Operation Red Sea”, about an elite Chinese assault team. The movie was the highest grossing Chinese film of 2018.
“Operation Red Sea” was also nominated for Best Editing, Best Visual Effects and Best Sound.

4 Jia Zhangke for “Ash is Purest White
Jia Zhangke won Best Screenwriter for his screenplay for “Ash is Purest White.” Jia Zhangke also directed the love story set in the gangster world.
“Ash is Purest White” was also nominated for Best Actress.

5 Lin Hongfeng for “Project Gutenberg”
Lin Hongfeng won the award for Best Visual Effects for “Project Gutenberg,” a crime thriller about catching a notorious counterfeiter.
“Project Gutenberg” was also nominated for Best Acting, Best Screenwriter, Best Editing and Best Design.
