China’s post-90’ers are taking the beauty world by storm. And with the recent uptick in viral Chinese makeup transformations on YouTube, young Chinese women are introducing China’s own brand of beauty to the west.
From V-shape tape to skin bleaching creams, Chinese beauty trends couldn’t be more different from their western counterparts.
Here’s a breakdown of the Chinese beauty trends that are turning ladies from drab to fab.
-
1 Pale Skin
While western women are tanning and applying bronzers, Chinese women are using skin lightening products to achieve the desired porcelain skin tone.
Chinese beauty shops are stocked with whitening creams, lotions, facial masks, and foundations to help Chinese women achieve this look.
The pale look is trendy now, but this beauty trend has its roots in social hierarchy. When China was an agricultural society, having pale skin was a signal that you didn't work in the fields (translation- you are a part of the aristocracy).
The vast majority of post-90ers Chinese haven't spend a day on a farm, but the beauty trend has stuck.

2 Double Eyelid Tape
European-style makeup is hugely popular in China. So, it's not a huge surprise that having big eyes is a popular beauty trend.
In the race towards 'eye perfection', the Chinese beauty industry gave birth to a makeup miracle: eyelid tape. Within minutes, an Asian woman can easily achieve the "double eyelid" and significantly widen her eyes.

3 Nose Wax
Face sculpturing is not that popular in China. However, some girls still engage in this complicated procedure.
With the use of scar wax, they can transform their cute noses into a more solid, pronounced one. The transformation can render some women unrecognizable without makeup.
-
4 V-shaped Tape
Chinese girls use special tape (known as V-shaped tape) to make their faces smaller. The tape is applied to the side of the jawline and covered with foundation. It literally blends in with the skin!
The result- a more defined jawline and a thinner face.

5 Eyebrow Stamps
Eyebrow stamps are a beauty trend and a time-saving hack.
Drawing a perfect eyebrow usually takes 2-5 minutes. With this new Chinese invention, your eyebrows will be on fleek in seconds.
There is a huge variety of eyebrow stamps with different textures and colors. Sellers usually provide 2-3 eyebrow shapes per pack.
If you apply eyebrow gel afterward, your perfect eyebrows will last the whole day.
